The experience of the death of a loving spouse is an experience I would like to escape from having. Stanley expected early in his married life that he would experience his wife Carol’s death. In fact he prayed that Carol would pre-decease him in order to spare her the pain of having to bury him after fifty plus years of marriage. At age seventy-eight Stanley’s prayers are answered. Carol is gone. He is alone, lonely, and becoming discouraged. He regrets his praying for this day. It hurts badly.

One action that Stanley takes while working with his loss is to reach out and talk with Marena. Marena lives with her own array of serious problems. Their relationship is awkward but they both work hard at making progress. Together they encounter the world of relationship, activities, beauty and daily situations for two seventy-eight year old people who are just getting to know each other, their families, and their God.
